Elad Lassry

I don't think that I could ever have imagined a time that I would be encouraging people to look at images of cats. The are usually the epitome of bad photography, sweet and syrupy the stuff of nightmares. However I think these particular images by Elad Lassry are mesmerising. Perhaps because they question or set us a puzzle about object photography or just the way we look at objects or just because they are strange I find it difficult to know; the colour alone is interesting.For whatever reason I think his work is worth looking at, I found it difficult to find a web page so the link is for White Cube the gallery he is attached to http://whitecube.com/artists/elad_lassry/ . New project images

I thought I would post some of my new images for the current project I'm doing. It's difficult to know where this idea came from, perhaps the mobile images are having more effect on me; but it's a very instinctive idea and done relatively quickly, at least for me. I wanted the models to forget what they looked like and what they were doing, hence the closed eyes. I have a thing about people giving me their picture face, what I'm looking for is something less conscious. I'm often asked why black and white; aside from the fact that it's how I learnt photography and because of this prefer the method I also wanted less information. I didn't want people to think about colours etc; to my way of thinking it's about concentrating a view.

New Mobile Images

After years of rejecting images that have been made with phones, I think I've come round to the idea that there is something very freeing about the ability to be able to take images instantly; something very immediate and instinctive about it and no less creativity than in more formal media. I like the way that I can see an image and just take it without wondering what it is to become and what it means; it's just an interesting image. I do try and limit in fact I have a little side project that is just photographs of corners, particularly gallery corners. In all cases what I'm interested in is light and composition,what else.

Alan Ostreicher

There is much to admire about Alan Ostreicher's images, not least that a great deal of them are done in Black and White; I'm hoping that these are made using film! In the set of images viewed above he is working on purely pictorial elements using light and composition to let us see the world in a different way. Isabelle Pateer

I was sent this link to a Beligian photographers site http://www.isabellepateer.com/projects/ This image is from a series called Unsettled which focusus on whats left after industry has moved on. In this case it's in the Belgian village of Doel. Collectively the photographs tell a story of loss, waste and I think a sense of betrayal. They convey a feeling of people that are abandoned, let down by what big business has to offer. They also show how in a global market business looks at costs first and communities after. I suppose what I really like about them is the fact that the focus is on the human waste, this to me makes the massage more tangible.
