Lorenzo Vitturi Body Parts

I found these two images by Lorenzo Vitturi, which I thought were perfect for the Body Parts Project at work. They are very fresh and appealing images which seem to fall just on the right side of kitsch, they are full of really good colour and just good fun. I especially like the images with the partly painted bodies. You can find his work at http://www.lorenzovitturi.com/images-from-the-crepaccio/ or http://www.123inspiration.com/photography-by-lorenzo-vitturi/ . Perhaps you should look at the Dalston Anatomy project which is equally as good fun.

Marcus Haydock

I'm not usually that bothered by Photographers who appear to just collect images that are unconnected; however there are exeptions. Take a look at Marcus Haydocks work and in particular There is no time for art, the image above is from this series, and the history of now. You can find his work here http://www.marcushaydock.co.uk/gID/10902/pID/36/Gallery-detail

Voyerism?

There was an interesting article in last weeks Guardian The art of peeping: photography at the limits of privacy. It concerned the work of Arne Svenson (seen above) and the fact that he had been taken to court about the photographs he had been taking of his neighbours. The images ate taken using a long lens of the apartment block opposite Stevenson's in New York. The court found in Stevenson's favour saying that despite the content Svenson did not have to gain permission to show the images. However it still does not answer the question about whether or not the images are voyeuristic.
For my part I can say that I find the photographs fascinating, and yes part of this is because we are looking at someone else's life, unadorned and not posed and there is an element of voyeurism in that; but I don't feel that it makes me a voyeur just someone who is interested in images of peoples lives. I think if the images were in any way salacious I would feel differently, but surely what Svenson is doing is exactly what a photographer like Martin Parr might do, which is to hold up a mirror to ourselves so that we might understand life a little more.

Elad Lassry

I don't think that I could ever have imagined a time that I would be encouraging people to look at images of cats. The are usually the epitome of bad photography, sweet and syrupy the stuff of nightmares. However I think these particular images by Elad Lassry are mesmerising. Perhaps because they question or set us a puzzle about object photography or just the way we look at objects or just because they are strange I find it difficult to know; the colour alone is interesting. For whatever reason I think his work is worth looking at, I found it difficult to find a web page so the link is for White Cube the gallery he is attached to http://whitecube.com/artists/elad_lassry/ . If you would like to see the green image here you can see it at the Nottingham Contemporary along with some other great objects in a show called The Universal Adressability of Dumb Things. The show is curated by Mark Leckey and runs until June 30th. You can find deatils at http://www.nottinghamcontemporary.org/events/whaton .

New project images

I thought I would post some of my new images for the current project I'm doing. It's difficult to know where this idea came from, perhaps the mobile images are having more effect on me; but it's a very instinctive idea and done relatively quickly, at least for me. I wanted the models to forget what they looked like and what they were doing, hence the closed eyes. I have a thing about people giving me their picture face, what I'm looking for is something less conscious. I'm often asked why black and white; aside from the fact that it's how I learnt photography and because of this prefer the method I also wanted less information. I didn't want people to think about colours etc; to my way of thinking it's about concentrating a view.

New Mobile Images

After years of rejecting images that have been made with phones, I think I've come round to the idea that there is something very freeing about the ability to be able to take images instantly; something very immediate and instinctive about it and no less creativity than in more formal media. I like the way that I can see an image and just take it without wondering what it is to become and what it means; it's just an interesting image. I do try and limit in fact I have a little side project that is just photographs of corners, particularly gallery corners. In all cases what I'm interested in is light and composition, what else.

Alan Ostreicher

There is much to admire about Alan Ostreicher's images, not least that a great deal of them are done in Black and White; I'm hoping that these are made using film! In the set of images viewed above he is working on purely pictorial elements using light and composition to let us see the world in a different way. Not the most appealing of subject matter but done well as it is here shows us what other things can be done with photography. You will find his work at http://www.alanostreicher.com/untitled.html
